88 and feeling great!!

I got an 88 on my Chem test today! Wooohooo it's a miracle and much needed confidence boost because I haven't been feeling very good about anything Chemistry-related later.

no congrats/personalized message but that's okay by me!
I'm excited for the weekend! Between the Superbowl and some other get togethers it should be a lot of fun!

Last week of January?

How is it almost February? That's mind-boggling to me! It's already been a busy week. I got to hang out with Mom and Onnie this weekend as she did some college tours of the U and BYU. They left early early this morning, so last night Jami and I took them to the airport, and as it happened, were also able to pick up the new dining room set!

the chairs were literally at least twenty years old! crazy!
It looks pretty good, huh? I'm so happy with how it was able to turn out!

National Peanut Butter Day, the Temple and a party

Quite the random title, but that was what today was all about!

Pics from yesterday-Danielle bought some Martinelli's just for fun, so of course I broke out the Chevy's margarita glasses!

This morning we woke up at 5:45 !! to go to the temple, we got back at 9. Still trying to figure out the optimal time/temple to go to....

And then it was a steady mix of baking/cleaning/homework for the rest of the day and night.

We had a good time tonight! Not quite as many people as last time but still a great group.

National Blonde Brownie day

Today was national blonde brownie day, so I brought a small batch into work! And it paid off well, since I found out I got a 50 cent raise! Woohoo!

I can't believe it's Thursday night already-it's the weekend tomorrow?? It turns out that a lot of my classes in the morning were cancelled, which worked out really nicely because Rachel, the other receptionist at work, had a family emergency and had to head down to Vegas today so I can cover for her tomorrow.

The only other big thing planned this weekend is a potential party on Saturday! Danielle and I are thinking either Waffles and Wii or Play games in your PJ's and Partake of some Pinteresty Peanut Butter treats (because Saturday is national peanut butter day!). Votes on one or the other?

Squirrel Appreciation Day

The latest happenings in my office at work are several calendars of holidays! You know how every day's a holiday? It's true! Most of them are totally random, but just for fun we've decided to take note of them. Today was, as you could've guessed, squirrel appreciation day!

Which of course, called for a squirrel fact sheet. Tomorrow is national blonde brownie day, so I made some tonight to bring to the office and pass out to anyone who stops by :) A little silly but it brought a surprising amount of fun today!

Snowshoeing!

Today for MLK day some friends from the ward and I went snowshoeing! You can rent them from BYU's outdoor adventure store (think REI wannabe). It was so much fun. We went up to Stewart Falls, which is actually the hike that the FOL kids can go on but I've never done. And it was beautiful! Here come lots of pictures.

The rest of the day was homework, FHE, and more homework. Four day school week starts tomorrow!

Bizet's The Pearl Fishers

Today was pretty neat! This morning, I actually slept in until 9 (woohoo!), then went to the gym, tidied up, watched the Indian movie Three Idiots online (it's up on YouTube mom and dad!), and got ready to go to the opera in Salt Lake City with Lana!

The performance was Bizet's The Pearl Fishers, and I definitely agreed with the director's notes that this piece is known for its music, then the singing, then the plot. I may or may not have chuckled a little at some of the translation. "Sacrilegious love!" "You have summoned my fury!" "I will pray for you (but not you other guy!)"

when we first arrived
We ate dinner before at this place by City Creek called Brio, but to be honest it wasn't that great. We were hungry though so it was fine.

our seats actually weren't bad at all! The bar in the upper right hand corner was where the subtitles
appeared.

as we left
It was really a good time! I truly enjoy listening to all kinds of music, and symphony/opera is no exception. Pretty neat!

Three-Day Weekend coming up!

The week is nearly over! And tomorrow one of my classes was cancelled, Men's Volleyball begins, and the homework that was due I finished today. Woohoo!

I also made it to the gym with Ali from work! Our new goal is to go together every Tuesday and Thursday, and then do individual workouts MWF (okay, I'm going to do individual workouts MWF :). That and going grocery shopping and not buying any treats=good work!

Now for some random pictures from yesterday and today:
it's....santa snowman?

BYUARC Happenings

This should have been posted yesterday, but I was finishing an essay for my medical Spanish class....
Update: we're getting new countertops and carpet in the shack, meaning it was time for a deep clean. Some of this stuff is truly antique! I honestly didn't know what any of it was, but maybe my ham fans can identify what some of this is :)

Allt För Sverige update!

It's submitted!! My application is in and my video is on the web. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7sL8gk-Dd0

And now the waiting begins! Why not do something like this, right?

Today was rainy! It's actually snowing a little right now, believe it or not! And busy as usual. Although we did have some excitement in IP&T this morning with a broken projector!

I'm off to finish my homework. FHE was just watching the BCS bowl...

Weekend Catch-Up

Friday: School, homework.

Saturday: morning temple trip to Mt. Timp, gym, piano practice, and a FANTASTIC game night! Cover your assets, Nertz, and the Great Dalmuti. Plus some treats!

perfect wintry morning
Sunday-Birthday celebration of Jami! Eternally 29! And a fun new game!

pretty good.

And I joined our ward book club! Looking forward to it. Now it's super late so I need to go shower and go to bed to keep up with my getting-up-early schedule!

Week one=Done!

The first week of winter semester is over! Next weekend we even get a three-day weekend, how awesome is that?

Tonight was the usual excitement of trying to finish all my homework so Saturday can be free for fun things, like a (well, hopefully!) game night! I also made it to a Chem review for our pre-test, which was actually very comforting. I was afraid that I wouldn't remember anything from Chem 105, but I felt pretty confident throughout the review! Must be that Olson chemist side of the family :) We also have a cleaning check tomorrow. And I'm playing the piano in church so I need to practice at some point. I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow!

Yes I am still alive

...just very busy already! Plus, I think part of it is figuring out my schedule and getting used to my classes. They're all so interesting and I really like them, but the semester is underway and off with a bang. Next weekend is a three-day weekend though, so that should be fun!

First Day of Winter 2015!

Another first day of school down! It went great and miracle of miracles-it turns out one of my classes can replace my Humanities class I was supposed to take this semester so I could drop it and I only have to take 15 credits this semester! Woo! I was a little worried not going to lie, so this is great!

selfie on the way to school! It was freezing!
also no clue why my hair looks teased.
it does what it wants.
I'm excited for the courses that I'm taking, but the work has already begun! Tonight I was able to go grocery shopping and then blend a smoothie for dinner, do homework, and I'm ready for bed at 10:30! I woke up early today and am convinced that this is the schedule I should stick to. My morning was so much smoother! Now if I can keep everything consistent I know it'll be a winning semester.

Goodbye Los Altos and Hello Allt För Sverige Application!

Yesterday was my last day home, and I put it to good use by having my family help me with my Allt För Sverige video application! Hopefully all goes well, but I think it turned out pretty cute! When it gets uploaded to YouTube I'll be sure to share the link here. Some exciting photos of the process can be seen below:

props galore!

Leaving Los Altos was no fun. The flight back to Salt Lake was NOT the best experience I have ever had. Thanks to delays (with no clear reason behind them) we finally got into SLC around 11 pm and home to Provo at 12:30 am. Huge shoutout to J&J for picking me up and then waiting for my friend's checked baggage so she could get a lift too.

leaving CA... can you spot the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges?
not amused in the waiting area.

deYoung with some divas

This morning/early afternoon Onnie, Rennie and I visited the de Young art museum while Mom and Anders went across the way to the California Academy of Sciences. It was our Christmas present to Onnie since she enjoys Keith Haring's art, and there happened to be an exhibit there!

I will admit that some of his art was not very enjoyable, but I was able to find several pieces that I did enjoy and liked.

After the Keith Haring exhibit we went upstairs to the more classical ones, which I loved! Flashback to Europe and all the museums there.

we all went to the cezanne exhibit!
Then I babysat with Onnie tonight, earned some money, and have been working hard on my Allt för Sverige app. Wish me luck!
