happy memorial day! safe and sound in p-town

I'm back after a great Memorial Day weekend in California! It's always fun to go back home. Unfortunately, I thought this little break would be nice, and then I'd be able to get into gear and really study, prepare extra early for exams, etc. HOWEVER it just made me want it to be summer and to be back home. Whoops.

Here's my montage of life back home!

haha that was a joke.

Today was full of my second-to-last Foods lecture, Anatomy lecture, Foods lab where we made foccacia bread (mmmm) and I squeezed in an open lab. Hoping to get to bed early tonight!

good night and I'll see you in the morning!

Only a few more hours before I will get up again and head to the airport...I'm excited but dreading trying to stay awake all day tomorrow! Confession: I actually like traveling and flying, and I really like seeing my family again, so I know it'll be an AWESOME Memorial Day weekend! T left this evening to head to her sister/brother-in-law/nephew's in Texas, and C's staying behind in P-town. I'm just so happy that midterms are over and I'll be heading home for a nice break!

crazy eyes-coming to California soon!
Haha. What a crazy kid! I also posted this because I've got the eye on my brain..it was our latest unit and my next quiz in Wednesday. Can you name all the parts of the eye? After today I'm pretty sure I can...

one day more.

One more day, two more open labs, one more lecture, and one more cooking lab until it's MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND! I can't wait to visit sunny California for four days! There's nothing to really report about today, except that I got a 91 on my Foods midterm. Woohoo! That means no more midterms for...another week. And then they just start up all over again. Just more to look forward to...

drumroll please...

...the verdict's in. I got a 95 on my Anatomy Lab midterm! I'm super excited. I'll get my test back tomorrow so I can see which questions I missed and if I got any of the two bonuses right. What a relief! Tomorrow I'll take my Foods midterm and then I can relax and prep for a fun Memorial Day weekend in California!

proof. wahoo!

Other than a quick trip to Target to stock up on some essentials (read:conditioner, other toiletries), today was just the usual day. Our Foods lab was delicious-we made Orange Teriyaki Chicken with snap peas and noodles, plus an appetizer of salsa (basically cowboy caviar). Yum!

t-minus one month.

I cannot believe that in exactly one month it will be the last day of finals! I knew that this semester would fly by, but I can't believe how quick it's been. Today was my anatomy lab midterm, and I think it went alright! I'll be able to find out my score tomorrow night.

The highlight of today was definitely this photo:

creeper photo.
Can you tell what those brown splotches are? CHICKENS! Apparently the house across the street has chickens who are allowed to wander around. Just a little wildlife here in suburbia. Tomorrow brings a yummy foods lab and hopefully another solid trip to the gym like tonight!

WE HAVE INTERNET.

These past few days have been exciting, to say the least- and that's not counting the lack of internet! On Wednesday the network that we had been using totally died, so we tried to connect our router for the next couple of days...aaaand failed. Luckily, after some calls to Utah Broadband, we are now fixed and have much better internet. Woohoo! So here it goes for an update:

Friday-I took my anatomy lecture midterm and got a 94! I'm so glad I went to the reviews I did and got the tips to try practice online problems and to really know all the lecture slides, because it certainly paid off! I went with C to pick up a scooter for her brother E, who broke two toes rock climbing. It definitely brought back memories of my poor roommate S scootering around all last semester...That night, we went and saw Star Trek 2, which was, in a word-AWESOME. I don't consider myself a Trekkie because I've never actually seen any of the originals, but I LOVE the J.J. Abrams remakes. So. Good. And the fact that I'm a huge Benedict Cumberbatch fan doesn't hurt either...

part-time scooter model.

STAR TREK!
Saturday: I had two hours of open lab, then I went with T and C to go help volunteer for a Y-Chem (BYU's Chemistry Club) event. As you may have guessed, we were rewarded with a cool free t-shirt, pizza, and ice cream. Yum. Plus bonus points for helping out. Our job was to guide high schoolers to each lab/station and make sure they didn't get lost/break anything/break themselves...

touring research labs.

actually DOING a lab
That evening (while it was still light!) we attempted to hike the Y again-we were probably a third of the way up when T quit, so I decided to stay behind and keep her company. Truth be told, the view was pretty fine from where we were...

panorama of the valley.
Someday I will conquer Y Mountain, though!! It was quite steep, I will admit. Mom-I tried to take a picture of the steepness, because it made me think of our Snowslide Lake hike all over again...

pretty steep.
Sunday: Church/lunch/dinner at the W's. Watched an episode of Planet Earth, and am getting ready for bed because I'm super tired!! Plus I have some more open labs early tomorrow in preparation for my lab midterm...eeeek! Wish me luck! The parts that I'm nervous for are the Central Nervous System (because we just covered it and didn't have a quiz on it...) and the insertions/origins of muscles. At least I've done everything I can, including doing an extra credit TA evaluation! And once I get through it, I just have my Foods midterm that I'm going to take on Wednesday, and then I leave Friday to go home for Memorial Day!! Can't wait to see everyone, including the partying parents who are getting back from their spring break in Florida ;) Good night!

midweek to midterms

It looks like I'll take my lecture midterm Friday and then lab midterm Monday! I can't remember if I already talked about that yesterday, but since midterms are basically becoming my life it's kind of a big deal. My foods midterm isn't until next Wednesday, so I've still got some time for that. It was the usual class/lab/class/gym/homework today-we did go to the Cocoa Bean to try and get some cupcakes for our friends C and K who are in the MTC right now, but you have to buy them in a half-dozen or a dozen, and since we're poor college kids, we didn't want to spend like 40 bucks on cupcakes.

Tomorrow brings more class; our foods lab theme is "Milk and Dairy", so we'll be making fondue, cheese ball  crackers, soups, and more! Pretty fun. I forgot to mention yesterday that we made fried chicken in lab! We just used a neat little fryer that did the job quite well, until it stopped working. But then we restarted it and all was well! Hopefully tomorrow won't be too crazy. Shout-out to the parents who are headed to the Florida Keys-lucky ducks! And hi to Amma, who's hanging out with my sibs at home (I hope your AP test went well today A!!!).

twos-day

Two open labs in one day! Anatomy just continues to take over my life...and for good reason, because I have a midterm on Friday and Monday! Today was the usual combo of classes and homework (no gym tonight because of extra homework!). Tomorrow is one more anatomy lab quiz, writings of Isaiah, and then lots of studying.

Some pics from the weekend: (since they actually loaded today!)

at the reservoir!
at the roll-up Saturday night!

mother's day card games.
a HOT monday night. it must be spring or something!

It's been...one week

....since I last blogged! And all I can say is that Anatomy has taken over my life. I feel like I practically live in the Widstoe and Marb because that's where I have my lab, lecture, and on Sundays, church! So this past week was a lot of studying for bi-weekly quizzes, going to open lab, and getting ready for our lecture midterm which starts this Wednesday. In between that, I try to work out in the evenings and then relax on the weekend.

This weekend we had a blast!
Friday-went to the Mt. Timpanogos temple. It was kind of weird to go do baptisms without T and C! And then I had to wait for two hours because I finished quicker than expected...a nice pause for self-reflection! That night we tried to hike the Y-and were ambushed by someone in a swamp suit (those camo suits designed for swamps) growling like a cougar! It was seriously the most terrifying thing ever. We decided after running away to turn back around and try it another time..in the daylight! Plus we found out on our way down that the guy had more friends further up the trail (he wisely took his headpiece off to talk to us when we came down). I'm just so mad that I forgot to take a picture! Whoops. Adrenaline will do that to you.

Saturday-went to Alpine for T and C to get a haircut. Tried to tan for a little bit in T's backyard, ended up playing softball instead! Walked around the Riverwoods (a little shopping center with cool lights), found a little craft fair that was adorable. Stopped by the Roll-Up for good times' sake. Came back home and watched the Goonies for the first time (truth be told-I was not very impressed).

Sunday-Happy Mother's Day! We had a delicious, summery dinner at J&J's. Kebobs, pineapple, jello...Skyped with the family and some far-away friends!

Monday (today)-Did well on another Anatomy quiz! Woohoo! Lots of prep for lab and my upcoming lecture midterm. Went grocery shopping, hit the gym, and did some homework. Another day in the life!

I tried to post some pictures, but my complex's internet is TERRIBLE. So for now, it's jut a long, boring summary. I promise the next one will be more colorful and picture-filled!!

reunited!

These kids finally made it back! C actually got in last night, but T didn't until today.

Today was pretty good! I got a 95 on my first Anatomy lab quiz-and the one question I missed wasn't an identification question, it was part b of a question that had to do with lecture. So I feel okay about that! Plus it was beautiful and sunny.

lunch spot.
.....well, beautiful and sunny until a thunderstorm came along!

splashin with the ducks.
Tomorrow brings more open lab (because I have ANOTHER anatomy quiz on the entire appendicular skeleton this Wednesday), foods class, and anatomy lecture. Whew! Just keeping busy busy busy.

i hope i will never talk to anatomy
models more than my roommates...

May the Fourth be with you.

Because it's May 4th! Get it?! You just have to love some good Star Wars humor.

Today I had 2 more hours of open lab, and I think I'll be ready for my quiz on Monday! But my adventures started last night...or more like this morning. Waay early morning, when my smoke alarm started chirping. And I couldn't figure out how to unhook it from the wall and pull out the battery. Luckily I finally figured it out...

the culprit.

...and was able to get some sleep before open lab at 9! After that, I ate lunch, took a nice nap (2 hours! what??), had dinner (I attempted to make breadsticks!), and watched the Cougars play UCI in the men's volleyball national championship.

they were more biscuit-like than breadstick-like...

GO COUGS!!!
Unfortunately, we lost, but at least Rugby won their national championship today! Then I just took a break and watched John Tucker Must Die on tv. Throwback! I haven't seen that movie in probably six years.

Now I'm off to bed and get to go to church on my own! Here I go!

Friday, May 3, 2013

I should have gone to bed an hour ago.

But I stayed up and finished Season 2 of The Walking Dead. Ask me if I regret it tomorrow at 7:30 when I have to wake up for another open lab...

Today I had two hours of open lab for Anatomy, a review for the lecture portion of Anatomy, checked out a skull to practice on, and hit the gym and watched some shows. Whew! It's still busy around here, even if it's just me! On the plus side, with all this anatomy, I think I should be ready for my first quiz on Monday. Let's hope it goes well!

breakfast smoothie and anatomy terms.

leftovers from yesterday's foods lab!
broccoli salad (minus the rasins) and a vegetable soup.

my new roommate for the weekend.
don't worry, it's fake.
but you might want to worry about my crazy eyes...

First week of spring semester=survived!

Well. I had planned to take lots of pictures and have an exciting blog post everyday this week, but it didn't happen. Oops! Even though I'm only taking three classes instead of five like the last two semesters, it's definitely a different feel because each class is twice as long. So time goes by pretty quickly every day! Here's an update on my classes:

Foods: Is super fun! I think the readings from our textbook are pointless, it was obviously written by some aspiring English major. Think "siren calls of carbohydrates" and other such descriptions of food. Our labs are pretty neat, though! There's a special foods lab with about seven mini kitchens where we cook a meal every Tuesday and Thursday. Our time slot is from 3-6, so it's basically a free dinner!

Writings of Isaiah: We have a substitute professor since the one scheduled to teach is really sick. This guy seems pretty great though! He's this short Jewish man from Idaho, is missing half of his left index finger, and seems to know his stuff. I'm excited because we'll cover a lot of the linguistic and translation aspects of Isaiah, and since I like languages I think it'll be great!

Anatomy: Is going to be a lot of work. I'm already learning so much in lab and lecture and still have so much to learn!!! For instance-our lab on Wednesday was all about the axial skeleton, and I have to memorize all 107 terms of every bone and indent of your skeleton for a quiz on Monday! How crazy is that?! And I've found out some cool facts, like why your nose runs when you cry and what causes goosebumps. Next week we should start learning off of cadavers. I'll let you know how it goes!!

I don't have classes on Friday, so tomorrow I just have an open lab for anatomy and lots of time to study! It's just me because T and C flew back home to California for the weekend to receive their endowment. SO EXCITING! I feel so old and so young at the same time. It's pretty weird. Love you all and hope your weeks aren't as crazy as mine! I'll try to remember and take some pictures so it won't be another boring monologue next time. Good night!
